Proclaim and Praise: A Lenten Journey for Abiding in Christ

God9s Kind of Blessings
May God bless us still so that all the ends of the earth will
fear him.
Psalm 67:7
E
ven in that unpredictability, God still blesses4just not
the way you think. Many people have scratched and
clawed through life without experiencing material
prosperity, yet they remain highly faithful to God. In Genesis
12, God promised Abraham that He would bless him with so
many descendants that he would not be able to count them.
It was only after a generation had passed that God fulfilled
that promise. Once the promise was given in the form of his
firstborn son, God told Abraham to sacrifice him on a
mountain. Later, God provided a ram for the sacrifice. Joseph
saved Egypt from a dire famine; however, he was first sold
into slavery by his brothers and spent time in prison before
reaching the pinnacle of the palace. David, a man after God9s
own heart, would ascend to the throne4not until he had made
moral missteps and experienced his own children turning their
backs on him.
Indeed, God moves in mysterious ways, His wonders to
perform. We often selfishly want to be blessed so that we can
enjoy life, but God has a larger goal for blessing us. Regarding
Abraham, Joseph, and David, He blessed them so the entire
