Making the Lord9s Ride Smoother
As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

henever the chivalrous courtier Sir Walter Raleigh
attended Her Majesty Elizabeth I and she
encountered a waterlogged or muddy road, he
would remove his fur coat and lay it on the ground. She then
passed ever so nicely, walking on the back of his mink. He
would do this because he wanted to make the queen9s
movements over the rough terrain easy and smooth. During
the Triumphal Entry, this is exactly what the people of
Jerusalem were doing. They removed their cloaks and spread
them on the rough, uneven, damp, filthy road to make the ride
smoother for their king, Jesus. It was a gesture of loving
respect, marked by humility and submission.
What are you doing in your life, ministry, or work to make
it easy for the King to travel? You may have been telling
everyone how much you love Jesus, identifying as a Christian
by wearing your cross, carrying your Bible, and posting
scripture on social media. Yet some of us make Jesus9 ride
rough when we misrepresent Him in those supposedly private
moments at our office, home, school, dormitory, or place of
recreation through rude or unkind speech and actions that
